Sadly, The Almaden Feed & Fuel finally closed after 125 years as New Almaden's favorite Bar and Restaurant,
when the City of San Jose recently allowed it to be torn down to build new houses on the historic site.

This was the last ol' timey place to eat or socialize left along Almaden Road. The Quicksilver Kitchen and
the Redwood Cabin Tavern were torn down for homes at the McKean Road intersection. Further up in New Almaden,
the Country Store, Opery House, and Down Under are closed.

There were families that had been coming here for over five generations.
It didn't look like a Stage Coach stop or a Gilmore Gas Station any more, but it remained as
the last standing Saloon and Way-Station of the original nine, where everybody and everything
coming from downtown San Jose to the Quicksilver mines stopped along the way for over a hundred years.

Long live the memory of the Almaden Feed & Fuel... and so recorded!
